i have a dossier to complete by the 11th of December. now, what i have to do is find a problem. However easy this may seem to be, what i cant do is make up a problem, in effect i have to go around to all the people i know and ask them quite literally what their problem is and if i could be of any assistance at all.
What i am doing at the moment is or at least hoping to do at the moment is to think of all the i know who have problems and try to think about IT solutions for those people.
the first person i thought off was my father, he has a passion for books and frequently borrows from the hong kong public library. However, organized he may be, he does on occasion miss his deadline and because of the sheer volume of books he borrows he ends up paying fines that quite frankly might make Hong Kong public libraries reconsider their naming.
Library books can be renewed about six times and each renewal extends the keepability of a book by two weeks. I just remembered that i read something in Johns blog that hinted at calenders and how it is a really popular choice. My programing skills are not as good as i would like them to be but the fact that library books renewal is pretty inflexible might hide the nail under the pillow.
i will continue my hunt for a problem that is legitimate but easy to solve using a computer, perhaps my grandparents.....
Ashwin - it can be hard to come up with a suitable problem. I know that you're looking at the example files - what you should do is come up with 3 ideas and then see if you know anyone that might make use of these. Don't forget teachers at WIS. In the past students have made booking systems, science chemical inventories.... most didn't work so didn't get used... the problem might still exist
